PS: kind of spoiler-ish, but does not affect the story line view spoiler [ there was something that I wasn't expecting which was Elma naked, but honestly it felt so natural that it really didn't bother me and given the fact that this is a European Comic, they are really more okay with this types of things than the rest of us so I respect that. The artwork was so stunning and the colour scheme beautiful. The little details, like Elma and bear having the same colour hair, I thought was a lovely touch. The relationship between bear and Elma was very sweet and Jungle Book esque. Howeve Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this comic! However, this was, essentially, way too short. As soon as my interested piqued it was over. It ends on a cliffhanger, so the story isn't complete. Cliff-hangers don't tend to bother me, but seeing as this aimed at children, it could've easily been made into a full-length graphic novel.
I had a few other minor problems with this one and I'm not sure whether I will continue onto the next volume, but I would still recommend giving this a go if it sounds like something you would enjoy! Elma: A Bear's Life - a part one childrens book is first of all beautifully drawn. The book cover style is what drew me in in the first place. Wonderful, if rather fantastuc colours are used throughout the book, and accompanies you while starting Elmas adventure to the unknown, for her adoptive dad, a bear, has kept a secret for years and Elmas life is about to change.
In this first you just catch a glimpse of what is going to happen. I'd recommend this book to first readers, who are a little old Elma: A Bear's Life - a part one childrens book is first of all beautifully drawn. I'd recommend this book to first readers, who are a little older and already fluent. I am not sure, if therefore the book is a bit short. You just get intonit, and the story ends. I am not sure I will look out for Volume II, but the kids will want to know, what is going to happen next.

It was a cute story and beautifully illustrated, even thought the art style is different from Waves yet still colorful and unique but less cartoonish and more drawn. Also I wonder where papa bear is taking here, I want to know that everything will be okay because I cared about them. But it was too short and it's clearly aimed at very young kids. But, again, it was sweet and if I can get my hands on a digital copy of the next volume, I'd love to read that one, too! I'm so annoyed at myself for not realising that only volume one was available to read on Netgalley - I've become too invested and need the next volume immediately! The art style in this is absolutely gorgeous and I love the relationship between the two main characters. There isn't too much else to say as this is a very short volume but e-ARC received from NetGalley 5 Stars Elma: A Bear's Life is a graphic novel about a seven-year-old feral girl, Elma, and her bear papa as they journey There isn't too much else to say as this is a very short volume but the fact I developed an emotional connection to the characters and story almost instantaneously says a lot.
Though I imagine this will be aimed mostly at children, it is very much a story for all ages.

But their 7 years are up and it is time. So, Elma and papa bear set off on a long journey. The story is sweet. It has a similar feel to jungle book. We aren't told where they are going, but the journey is dangerous and long. This gives us lots of sweet bonding moments between the two. The art is beautiful. I love the oranges and blue combination.

Aug 11, Emma rated it liked it. ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved the art style. Plot is good so far although it is difficult to review as really it's not that long and ends rather abruptly, especially for a children's comic. A solid beginning and I would like to know what happens next, so i believe it accomplishes what it probably sets out to do if your an adult.

The story was compelling and has left me wanting so much more of this. My only issue with this is that it ends on a massive cliffhanger and I want to consume as much of this as I possibly can.

Elma: A Bear's Life is a stunningly beautiful graphic novel that fills the reader's heart with emotion. It's tender, warm, and in the same time holds a melancholic tone. Both Elma and her Papa Bear are lovely characters, and their journey leaves the reader craving for a second part of this adventure.
Definitely a recommended read. Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The story was cute and I really enjoyed the sweet relationship between Elma and Papa Bear; there is a bit of intrigue in it so while I won't be continuing with any sequels I think it ends on an appropriate cliffhanger for a young reader.

The wonderful use of language, illustrations and story works perfectly for the atmosphere and narrative aimed at conveying. I enjoyed this one, very short and sweet, not one I would purchase immediately or even as a separate issue. I would consider adding it to our collection once it's complete.
I'm just not sure it's enough to engage the younger patrons and keep them on the hook until the next book. I do look forward to the completed series and grabbing that for our collection. A sort of Jungle Book redux, with a foundling human girl brought up by a bear, until something happens and they set off on a journey.
